• Keep a bucket of water or sand within reach. Drop spent sparklers and duds into it.
• Children should only handle crackers with an adult right beside them.
• Wear cotton clothing and tie back long hair. Keep footwear on.
• Never relight a piece that didn't go off. Wait a few minutes, then soak it in water.
• Rockets and shots need open ground — well away from buildings, trees, vehicles and overhead wires.
• Store unused crackers in a cool, dry place, away from lamps, stoves and diyas.
